The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital's Clinical Neurophysiology Department (CNPS) offers a wide selection of neurological diagnostic tests, including EEG, EMG, IONM, and Neurovascular Ultrasound. MUSC is a Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center with world-class technology (and attending physicians). For our long-term EEG patients, we have a dedicated Inpatient EEG Monitoring Room, which is staffed 24/7, optimizing diagnostic quality and enabling quick-response patient care.
As MUSC's neuroscience program continues to expand, we are looking for dedicated solid people to join our team with a passion to deliver the best possible healthcare for our patients. Our Clinical Neurophysiology Lab proudly comprises five accredited labs, including an IOM team, an Outpatient EEG team, an Inpatient EEG team, an EMG team, and a Neurovascular team. In fact, we are one of the two labs in the nation that hold the most neurophysiology lab accreditations. Our technologists are among the most qualified and talented across the country. EEG Tech I -
The Non-Registered Electroencephalography (EEG) Technician I of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services Department reports to the EEG Coordinator. Under direct supervision of the EEG Coordinator or designee, the EEG Technician I records by means of electronic equipment neurophysiologic potentials for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and conditions involving the nervous system.
EEG Tech II -
The Non-Registered Electroencephalography (EEG) Technician II of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services Department reports to the EEG Coordinator. Under indirect supervision of the EEG Coordinator or MD, the EEG Technician II records by means of electronic equipment neurophysiologic potentials for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and conditions involving the nervous system.
EEG Tech III -
The Registered Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist III of the Clinical Neurophysiology Services Department reports to the EEG Coordinator. Under general supervision, the Registered EEG Technologist III records, by means of electronic equipment, neurophysiologic potentials for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and conditions involving the nervous system. This position demonstrates competence and works under indirect supervision (EEG Coordinator, EEG Unit Leader, EEG Specialist or physician must be immediately available for assistance during all procedures).

Minimum Training and Education:
EEG Tech I -
- Associate degree, bachelors degree or an active student in good standing in a CAAHEP accredited EEG program.
- Must be board eligible for Registry in EEG according to ABRET guidelines within two years of employment.
- Certification in Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a current Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
EEG Tech II -
- Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited program of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology; or eligible for National Board Certification; or any combination of education and experience that warrants eligibility for National Board Certification required.
- Must obtain EEG certification or CNIM within 2 years of employment or 1 year of board eligibility.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
EEG Tech III -
- Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited program of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology or the equivalent and registered as an EEG Technician by ABRET required and must be maintained.
- One year EEG Technician work experience required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
